RFE were contracted by JJL Design & Build Ltd to design and install a new warehouse sprinkler system for the Caterpillar manufacturing plant in Desford, Leicester. Caterpillar Inc. is the world's largest manufacturer of construction equipment and the plant at Desford is dedicated to the assembly of small construction machines.
From budget quotation, to design, to site in just 8 weeks, this was a fast-track project. Our works included the design & installation of sprinkler protection to the main warehouse roof, racking, storage mezzanine & canopy areas. In addition, a new pump house and two water tanks were installed and commissioned to provide the water supplies required to run the new system.
Our sprinkler installation was designed, installed and commissioned to FM global standards, in particular FM data sheets 8-9. K480 & K360 sprinklers were fitted at roof level, K360 & K115 sprinklers within the storage mezzanine, and K160 heads in the racks.
This project was fast paced and required excellent communication and effective working with our trusted suppliers, sub-contractors, and the main contractor. The whole project was completed in just over five months and was successfully commissioned in November 2023.
