Shireland CBSO Academy is a brand-new music school in West Bromwich. Set up in partnership with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) the Academy is the first school in Britain to be established in collaboration with an orchestra.
In July 2022 RFe were contracted by Galliford Try to design, supply, install, test and commission a sprinkler system to Ordinary Hazard Group 3 incorporating Annex F Life Safety requirements, including duty electric and diesel backup pumps, twin cylindrical tanks and underground mains to suit.
The school building is a converted office block which presented several challenges and changes along the way. RFE carried out the coordinated 3D design for the building in house, and the hard work and collaborated thinking from the full supply chain meant all issues were resolved quickly and the new school looks amazing.
Our work was completed in August 2023 and the new building opened last week to year 7 and year 12 pupils. It is planned to take a maximum capacity of 870 students aged 11-18 by 2026. The Department of Education are delighted with the new school and in achieving the opening date, saying that the “trust and community will have a great school building to educate and support many children and families”. RFe are proud to have been involved with such a successful and enjoyable project.
