“Overcoming the challenges of innovative design”
In June 2020 RFE we were contracted by TClarke to provide sprinkler protection to 9 floors of fit out in the newly built 14 storey high ‘The Spine’ building in Paddington Village, Liverpool. The Spine houses the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) as well as other workplaces and organisations. All floors were fitted to Ordinary Hazard Group 3 High Rise (Floors zoned under original CAT A fit out).
The building has a large variety of complex ceiling features making it a challenge to provide effective sprinkler protection. Not only did we achieve this, we were sympathetic to the aesthetics of the building using different colours of sprinklers and 2nd fix methods.
Costing £35m to construct, The Spine, is a Grade-A office building. It’s layout and design have strong connections to nature with its distinctive façade taking inspiration from the human skin. The finished result looks first-class and the building has won several prestigious awards.
